How Uppingham in Bloom started

Uppingham in Bloom was started in 1983 by local shopkeepers and business people with a view to making the area more attractive to locals and visitors alike.

Over the years this has been accomplished by the efforts of volunteers from all walks of life, ranging through local residents, traders, professional people, as well as Uppingham School, all happy to do their bit to improve the local surroundings.

Flower beds, baskets and green areas are weeded, planted and kept in good order, bringing colour and interest to the streets. A sensory garden, which won a special award from East Midlands in Bloom, has recently been planted on Tods Piece. The Falcon Hotel, opposite the Market Place are loyal supporters of Uppingham in Bloom and have themselves won a Gold Award for Best Hotel Garden in 2013.

Uppingham in Bloom town won several awards over the years, the last being silver gilt and joint first place in East Midlands In Bloom.
