Month: August 2015
Come and enjoy wonderful hospitality at the Falcon hotel, for our 2015 “Uppingham in Bloom” Annual Ball. This fundraiser is always a great night out, with fabulous food, surroundings and live band. We also hold a raffle on the night with great prizes, so grab a gang of friends and make an evening of it!
After a sunny tour around the town in a pimped up Uppingham School minibus, the Judges were treated to a splendid lunch at the Uppingham Cricket Club prepared by Bloom committee members. The Mayor, Dave Ainslie, welcomed the Judges and thanked all the Volunteers for their hard work in making the town look fabulous. Representatives from Uppingham School Grounds Team, the WI, Rotary, Uppingham Town Council, Rutland County Council, and past and present committee members of Uppingham in Bloom enjoyed homemade treats. The results of the National competition will be announced at the award ceremony on October 16th. The regional award ceremony, hosted by Us this year at Rutland Water Golf Club on September 16th, will be when we find out if we have done enough to retain our Gold Standard from last year.
The Judges have arrived in Uppingham and are staying overnight in the Lake Isle Hotel prior to judging the town tomorrow. Who knows, they may even be wandering around our lovely town this evening. They may get to wander past The Garden Hotel and get a glimpse of their beautiful display (below). Fingers crossed for tomorrow!

All Uppingham gardeners are invited to enter their front gardens or nominate a deserving neighbours garden. We will be judging on August 18th in the afternoon, so keep weeding!
Uppingham committee chairman Karen Emery expects a high standard of entries. Judges from the East Midlands in Bloom committee will visit the town on Thursday and results will be announced on September 14. She also thanked the Uppingham School Gardening Team for their help with the planting and maintenance of the towns floral displays and the volunteers who help with weeding and general up keep of the town.
