How Uppingham in Bloom started

Uppingham in Bloom was started in 1983 by local shopkeepers and business people with a view to making the area more attractive to locals and visitors alike.

Over the years this has been accomplished by the efforts of volunteers from all walks of life, ranging through local residents, traders, professional people, as well as Uppingham School, all happy to do their bit to improve the local surroundings.

Flower beds, baskets and green areas are weeded, planted and kept in good order, bringing colour and interest to the streets. A sensory garden, which won a special award from East Midlands in Bloom, has recently been planted on Tods Piece. The Falcon Hotel, opposite the Market Place are loyal supporters of Uppingham in Bloom and have themselves won a Gold Award for Best Hotel Garden in 2013.

Uppingham in Bloom town won several awards over the years, the last being silver gilt and joint first place in East Midlands In Bloom.

The Falcon Hotel is a stunning 16th Century coaching inn that is the pride of Uppingham’s historic Market Place. The charming hotel is situated just four miles from the shores of Rutland Water in the heart of the natural splendours of Rutland.

Having been fully refurbished to its original splendour, the Falcon is now an elegant and welcoming place to enjoy a restful break, high tea in the afternoon or a wonderful evening meal. With it’s unique market town location there is no better place to hold your wedding reception, corporate event, or just a relaxing weekend.

Each room in the Falcon has been lovingly renovated with tasteful décor; our rooms have unique touches; such as hand-picked original furniture and plush fabrics, while the Main Lounge and Tap Bar are welcoming areas to enjoy food or a beverage, with wood-burning fires and cosy sofas. The Falcon is certainly every bit the home from home.
